The process can be confusing, and eligibility requirements for compression pumps differ from those for compression garments.

Does Ontario ADP Cover Lymphedema Compression Pumps?

Yes. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) may provide funding for sequential extremity compression pumps for eligible individuals diagnosed with primary lymphedema. If approved, ADP generally covers 75% of the approved cost, with the client responsible for the remaining 25%, unless they qualify for additional assistance through private insurance.

Who Is Eligible for ADP Funding for a Compression Pump?

Unlike compression garments, which may be funded for both primary and secondary lymphedema, funding for compression pumps is currently limited to individuals diagnosed with primary lymphedema who meet ADP's clinical criteria.

At this time, ADP does not provide funding for compression pumps for:

• Secondary lymphedema

• Lipedema

• Venous insufficiency

• Short-term or temporary swelling

What Is the Process for Obtaining ADP Funding?

Step 1: Speak With Your Physician

Discuss your symptoms with your physician or healthcare provider. If appropriate, your physician may refer you to a specialized lymphedema clinic.

Step 2: Attend an Assessment at a Registered Lymphedema Clinic

​

For compression pump funding, an assessment by an ADP-registered Lymphedema Team is required. These specialized clinics assess whether compression pump therapy is appropriate and whether the individual meets ADP eligibility criteria.

Many patients are referred to specialized centres such as the Toronto General Hospital Lymphedema Clinic.

Step 3: Complete the Required ADP Documentation

If you meet the program criteria, the registered Lymphedema Team will complete the necessary sections of the ADP application form.

Step 4: Work With an ADP Registered Vendor

Once approved, you can work with an ADP registered vendor, such as Custom Comfort, to obtain your compression pump and accessories.
